Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, food and art. Hope you have a nice stay!

I HATE Showers...

I HATE Showers...

I’ve struggled with self-care for a while now, even though I was getting my nails done every 3 weeks and my roots dyed every month.

The most uncomplicated things, like showers, feel like a chore. I despise them. It’s so hard for me to get motivated to take a simple shower (if I don’t stink) — I feel like they take up too much time, energy, and effort. Part of this is contributed to depression which I will get into in another post.

A very close friend of mine recommended that I adapt some parts of her nightly routine to make showers more enjoyable. If I had a bathtub, I would totally take a bath with a bath bomb and just relax, but my current place does not have a tub, so sadly no relaxing baths for me. She suggested making it “me time” by lighting some candles and using some essential oils.

Lit some candles and I have a reed diffuser in my bathroom. It is currently pineapple bamboo scented.

It made me remember these shower tabs I got from Bath & Body Works a couple years ago. I used them after my workouts in the mornings at the gym. They were energizing scents to wake me up. I loved them! So I searched Amazon for some, and I found a pack of 12 shower bombs for $19 which can be found here. It includes 4 scents — lavender, eucalyptus, rose, and peppermint. You put them in the shower somewhere the water will hit it but not in the direct steam or it will dissolve too fast. It releases essential oils and a nice fragrance into the steam while you shower.

I’ve used two so far, a rose one and a lavender one. I lit some candles, put on a “chill” playlist on Pandora, and put the shower bomb into the warm water. I let it sit for about 60 seconds to give it a chance to release the fragrance and oils before getting into the nice warm shower. I felt so fancy and pampered. It was a great experience. I’d have to say it was as success. I will definitely add it to my nightly routine.

I also bought a cute little oil diffuser to turn on before bed to help me wind down and relax. I’m loving this bout of self-care, and it’s really helping me to feel like I’m worth the effort I’m putting into myself. I just needed a push in the right direction and teensy bit of motivation to take off running. Mahalo!
